N.H. Sea Grant Request for Proposals

N.H. Sea Grant research funding occurs on a biennial basis, generally beginning February 1st of even numbered years. During 2009, NHSG will be reviewing research proposals from investigators seeking funding for 2010 and 2011.

Operating under the guidelines of, and in partnership with, the National Sea Grant Program of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), N.H. Sea Grant is a federally funded program of marine research, education and extension. These programs help provide the knowledge base for the wise use, development and conservation of marine and coastal resources of New Hampshire, northern New England and the nation.

Participation in our RFPs is open to faculty at research institutions of higher education throughout New Hampshire. Sea Grant programs nationwide will also consider multi-program support for collaborative projects. Where the research problem and needed expertise warrant such an approach, we encourage multi-investigator or multi-institution proposals or regionally coordinated efforts involving industry, state or regional organizations, private laboratories and/or other academic institutions.

Proposals should address one or more of the marine-related issues identified in the N.H. Sea Grant Strategic Plan (8.5MBpdf), which is available in printed form from NH Sea Grant or can be downloaded from this site in pdf format. Sea Grant seeks to foster the highest quality marine research, education and extension efforts; creative and rigorously conceived proposals in areas not mentioned in the Strategic Plan are welcomed. All proposals should contribute to improved understanding, utilization and/or management of coastal and marine resources. We strongly recommend that researchers seek to work with and integrate Sea Grant extension educators into their projects.

The development and review of Sea Grant Project Proposals is a three-step process:

1. Short preliminary project proposals are to be submitted to the N.H. Sea Grant Director's Office, Chase Ocean Engineering Lab, UNH, using the program's electronic submission process. Use the red button in the left hand column to access that process. [Due date: March 2, 2009]

2. For the most promising preliminary proposals, the principal investigator(s) will be encouraged to submit full project proposals. [Due date: June 1]

3. After a comprehensive merit review by mail and by panel, the best proposals will be recommended for funding to the National Sea Grant College Program. [PI notification date: Sept. 16]
