Haddock 2007: International
Symposium on Haddock Conservation,
Harvesting and Management

Portsmouth, NH, USA — October 25-26, 2007

An international symposium on haddock (Melanogrammus aeglefinus) is being organized by the University of New Hampshire and other collaborating institutions. This two-day symposium will include presentations and discussions on harvesting technologies, biological aspects and resource management issues concerning haddock and haddock fisheries on both sides of the Atlantic.

The symposium will be held in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, USA, at the Portsmouth Sheraton Harborside on October 25 and 26, 2007. The organizing committee would like to extend a request for oral and poster presentations for the symposium. Please see the specified themes/topics on haddock below for guidance.

  • Historical and contemporary haddock fisheries.
  • Biology, migration, behavior, stock structure and resource assessment.
  • Gear types and harvesting methods used to target haddock.
  • Techniques to reduce haddock bycatch and discards in other fisheries.
  • Fishery management approaches and challenges.
  • Future directions for science, management and harvesting technologies.

Selected manuscripts will be published in a special volume in Fisheries Research.

Early registration fees will be $200 U.S. non-student/$100 U.S. students until July 31, 2007, and $250/$150 U.S. respectively thereafter. Non-student registration includes the reception on Oct. 24, continental breakfast, break refreshments, lunch on both conference days, and a dinner banquet on Oct. 25. Student registration includes everything but the banquet. Additional banquet tickets may be purchased separately for $30 U.S. Hotel reservations at the symposium hotel (Sheraton Harborside Portsmouth) can be made at the special symposium rate of $189 U.S.
